Kylie Minogue brought the Tension Tour to Seattle on Friday, making fans go “Padam Padam” all night with a performance that will live in our hearts. The Pop Princess reigned over a joyous dance party in Climate Pledge Arena, performing classics, new hits, and a surprise addition for the first time on the tour. Kylie, with her amazing dancers, tight band and spectacular staging, dazzled Seattle during her first headliner show in town.

Adorned in a red jumpsuit, Act Two showcased Kylie’s command of the dance floor in any era with “On A Night Like This,” “Last Night I Dreamt I Fell in Love,” “Better The Devil You Know,” “Shocked,” “Things We Do For Love” and brought out the cowboy hats and two-stepping for “Dancing.”

Kylie took us back to the beginning for her cover of “The Loco Motion,” the hit that started it all for her in 1987. This night, Kylie proved her version is as fun and enduring as ever, as the crowd was all aboard then she took the party train into the delighted audience, making her way to the B stage.

Act Three was a center stage showcase starting with “Hold On To Now,” my favorite from the Tension album, then a rose and serenade for a lucky young fan of “Where the Wild Roses Grow,” a tour tradition. Seattle fans received a special surprise with a full-on acoustic version of “Red Blooded Woman” from the Body Language album.

The Australian icon appeared in a diamond of light shining above the stage in her first Emerald City concert with “Lights Camera Action” descending to the stage and spinning into hits “In Your Eyes,” “Get Outta My Way,” “What Do I Have to Do,” “Come Into My World,” “Good as Gone” and “Spinning Around.”

Then came the most emotional moment for me: “Say Something” as Kylie and her guitarist Luke delivered an acoustic dream performance of the lead single from Disco, as she reflected on the experience making and sharing the album during the lockdown. The disco ball came down and lit up, then her dancers joined the stage as the party fired back up with a medley of “Supernova,” “Real Groove,” “Magic” and “Where Does the DJ Go” from the Disco album.

Act Four: Kylie the powerhouse diva opened with a haunting performance of “Confide In Me,” showing her siren side and building to a high note-defying finish. The seduction continued with “Slow,” the sassy hit from Body Language that built into a costume reveal and strut onto the runway to the cheers of fans, where Kylie unleashed “Time Bomb” and “Edge of Saturday Night.”

The giant screen revealed an army of Kylies on film as Act Five broke the Tension, then came the iconic hit when the crowd went wild as Kylie sang three notes: “La La La!” Yes, “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” will never get out of our heads and hearts, especially after seeing this version live. “All The Lovers” was a gorgeous end as a dance anthem of love for her fans with white confetti snowing, shimmering lights and a chorus of fans swaying and singing along.

We know our hearts were just starting to race when the encore began pulsing with “Padam Padam” and “Love at First Sight,” two iconic tracks that showed the eternal appeal and power of Kylie. “Padam Padam” from Tension won a new generation of fans. “Love at First Sight” from Fever was for the devoted fans who have been with her the whole amazing ride.

This was an emotional night for so many Kylie fans like myself. I fell in love at first sight and sound when Kylie debuted in ’87 with her cover of “The Loco Motion.” After seeing Kylie live, I really became devoted. In 2002, my friends and I got off work and raced to get to the Jingle Bell Bash at the Tacoma Dome just in time to see Kylie and Destiny’s Child, the final performers of the event. It was a magical night. I think this was her only performance in the Pacific Northwest until now. In 2011, I flew to San Francisco to see the Aphrodite Follies tour. I had faith Kylie would return to North America with an arena tour.

On Friday night, a dream came true like a muse descending from above to lift us up with an amazing performance on a night that will live on our hearts and memories. In an arena filled with thousands, Kylie makes you feel special. For me, there’s always a Kylie song for every mood I’m in, or maybe more importantly, motivation to be in a better mood. Thank you, Kylie, for making this dream a reality in my adopted hometown.
