EXCLUSIVE: Cohen Media Group has set a June U.S. theatrical rollout for Bernard-Henri Lévy’s war documentary Our War, following its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival as part of its Ukraine Day program, and Deadline can reveal the trailer.
The movie co-directed by Levy with director-photographer Marc Roussel, marks the French philosopher and writer’s fourth work capturing the frontlines of the Ukrainian war.
Cohen Media Group will open the film on June 11 at the Quad Cinema in New York followed by Los Angeles, Chicago and additional markets. In France, it will be released, around the same date, on the platform of France Télévisions.
Over three years into Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Our War shows Lévy on the hottest locations of the Ukrainian frontline, from Pokrovsk to Sumy, at the exact moment when the future of Ukraine and Europe is playing out – at the White House, in European capitals, and on the battlefield.
As with his previous documentaries, Glory To The Heroes and Slava Ukraini, the film chronicles the sacrifice and courage of the Ukrainian soldiers and civil society in what Lévy see as an existential war, for both Ukraine and for the West.
“We are thrilled to be bringing another one of Bernard-Henri Lévy’s films to US audiences. Lévy’s courageous films consistently illuminate significant global issues, and Our War is no different. We are excited to share this powerful and vital documentary,” said Cohen Media Group founder and CEO Charles S. Cohen.
Lévy said the film’s release came at a critical time in Ukraine’s fight back against the Russian invasion.
“I have traveled to the frontline countless times since the start of the full-scale invasion. There is no more critical time than the present to support the soldiers who are giving their blood, bodies and souls to defend our common values. What I saw in the trenches and on the field is simple: Ukraine can win. They have an army of winners. They know why they fight – for their home and for us. And we must urgently continue our support,” he said.
“It was imperative for me to bring this message back to European capitals and the US as negotiations get underway.”
The film features an xclusive interview with President Emmanuel Macron and President Volodymyr Zelensky as they build the Coalition of the Willing to increase European support for Ukraine; a conversation with Zelensky about the 19,546 kidnapped children by Russia; and an interview with one of the children who was rescued from Russian abduction.
Lévy also has in-depth conversations with the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi regarding strategy of the military at this critical time, while the film also explores the personal stories of Serhiy Zhadan, a renowned poet and musician now in the Khartiia Brigade of Kharkiv, and Oksana Rubaniak, a young poet who recently lost her fiancé in combat and now commands a drone unit.
