EXCLUSIVE: Jesse Armstrong has once again intrigued audiences with his latest satire on the exploits of the ultra wealthy.

Mountainhead, the follow up to his HBO hit Succession, debuted Saturday, securing 1.3M viewers to date across linear and streaming, per Warner Bros. Discovery.

That makes it the most-watched HBO Original film since the Hugh Jackman and Allison Janney crime drama Bad Education in April 2020.

A few of the HBO Original films that have debuted since then are the pandemic-era comedy Coastal Elites, the political drama Oslo, the Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark and Barry Levinson’s The Survivor.

Mountainhead follows a group of billionaire friends get together against the backdrop of a rolling international crisis. It stars Steve Carell as Randall, Jason Schwartzman as Souper (Hugo Van Yalk), Cory Michael Smith as Venis, and Ramy Youssef as Jeff.

The film was quite a quick follow up to Succession, which ended on a high note two years ago with 2.9M viewers tuning in for the finale. Mountainhead was filmed just a few months ago in Park City, Utah. It also marks multi-Emmy winner Armstrong’s directorial debut.

Mountainhead is written and directed by Jesse Armstrong. Armstrong also executive produces with Frank Rich, Lucy Prebble, Jon Brown, Tony Roche, Will Tracy, Mark Mylod, and Jill Footlick.
