EXCLUSIVE: Outlander and A Place To Call Home actor David Berry is attached to star in R-rated wedding comedy Something Blue, currently in development.

The project marks Brit writer-director Gary Sinyor’s first US-set movie since 1999 Renée Zellweger rom-com The Bachelor.

Talks are said to be underway with financiers for the autobiographical project, about a man getting married for the second time round to a woman embarking on her first marriage.

Veteran director Sinyor and Australian actor Berry recently teamed up on the former’s TV series Hapless, which is currently streaming on Peacock in the U.S. and Prime in the UK.

Sinyor said: “David has a laidback Aussie charm which conflicts superbly with the rude chaos that surrounds him in the project. Now we just have to find his equally charming bride. Across the cast, we’re looking at funny funny people on social media as well as established talent. Something Blue should help a few actors with star potential cross over from the online world into the mainstream cinema.”

He added: “It’s been too long since I’ve filming in the U.S. Some say Hollywood has given up on comedy, but comedy should never give up on Hollywood, despite better incentives being offered elsewhere. I like the idea of shooting on location and supporting the U.S. industry which used to be known for making the laugh-out-loud comedy.”
