Buffalo 8 has created Buffalo 8 Music, a new division meant to serve as a one-stop hub for creators, producers, composers and rights holders. Longtime music supervisor Mason Cooper will become a partner in the new venture and handle rights administration and business affairs
The division of financier BondIt Media Capital said Buffalo 8 Music’s holistic set of solutions includes music supervision, licensing clearances, score production and music production financing across the film, television and broader content ecosystem.
It builds on the expansive BondIt platform, which finances 50 film and TV projects and services 60+ productions a year via Buffalo 8 post-production, and continues to grow the Buffalo 8 distribution library which now includes over 375 titles across independent film and scripted and unscripted television. Its latet move lets Buffalo 8 pair music services with film and TV finance, production, and distribution, “underscoring its belief in the enduring value of music in the global content economy.”
Cooper, a musician, founder of Songrunner Entertainment and former ASCAP Advisory Board member, has served as music supervisor for over 150 film and TV projects. He started in music publishing and has represented the catalogues of Bernie Taupin, John Lennon, Eddie Rabbitt, Jim Croce, George Michael, Rick Wakeman and Smokey Robinson.
Cooper’s “unique expertise sits at the intersection of music, rights management, and media production, making him a natural fit to guide Buffalo 8 Music into its next phase of growth,” the company said.
“We’ve long understood that music is not only an essential part of storytelling, but also a powerful asset class and creative revenue stream,” said Bondit CEO Matthew Helderman. “Buffalo 8 Music was formed to extend our ability to offer full-stack solutions for filmmakers, content creators, rights holders, and composers. Under Mason’s guidance, the division will integrate seamlessly into our existing ecosystem and provide support to projects, catalogues, and creators at every stage — from development and finance to post-production and distribution.”
“This division is born out of a passion for elevating musical storytelling while safeguarding the rights of creators,” said Cooper. “We’re not just supervising or licensing music — we’re building long-term infrastructure to help composers, songwriters, and producers access new creative and financial opportunities.”
The launch comes as BondIt expanded its financing footprint into live events with a recent investment in the Elements Music & Arts Festival.
