Glen Powell is taking on what might be his most challenging performance yet in Chad Powers: playing an “extremely ugly” person.
In Hulu‘s first teaser for the upcoming comedy series, the first two episodes premiering Sept. 30 on the streaming platform, the Golden Globe nominee plays hotshot quarterback Russ Holliday, who disguises himself as the titular football player to join a new team after tanking his own college career.
Debuting during game four of the NBA Finals, the teaser sees Russ getting dragged on social media after dropping the ball during a crucial play.
“Everyone says I’m done with football,” he says in the teaser. “There’s no such thing as bad press.”
Getting fitted for a wig and a prosthetic nose, Powell’s leading jock proclaims, “If I can’t play as Russ, I’ll play as someone else.”
The show also stars Perry Mattfeld, Quentin Plair, Wynn Everett, Frankie A. Rodriguez and Steve Zahn.
Featuring a pilot co-written by Powell and Michael Waldron, Chad Powers is based on the sketch produced by NFL Films and Omaha Productions that aired on ESPN+ as part of the Eli’s Places series.
Powell also serves as EP under his production co-banner Barnstorm Productions, along with Eli Manning and Omaha Productions’ Peyton Manning, Jamie Horowitz, Ben Brown and ESPN, as well as J. Waldron and Adam Fasullo for Anomaly Pictures.
The preview shows some of his moves on the field as he fools his new teammates. “He’s, like, extremely ugly,” says one cheerleader to a mascot.
