
EXCLUSIVE: Jaimie Alexander (Thor), Chloe Fineman (Saturday Night Live), and Cathy Moriarty (Raging Bull) are new additions to the cast of The Very Best People, the comedic thriller marking the feature directorial debut of Tony Award winner Brian Swibel, which is currently in production in New York.
The trio joins a cast that also includes Paul Walter Hauser, Lili Reinhart, Tim Roth, Jake Lacy, Jai Courtney, and Kerry Bishé, as we were first to tell you last month. Character details are under wraps, as is the film’s plot. Pic is written by John Lavelle — based on his play The Very Best People, which premiered at IAMA theatre company in the fall of 2024 — along with Swibel and Blades of Glory‘s Craig Cox.
Brent Emery (The Stanford Prison Experiment), Justin Klosky, Alex Peace-Power, Tara Smith and Bita Khorrami are producing for Swibel’s Triptyk Studios, which is venturing into narrative features for the first time on this project. Veteran producer and casting director Bonnie Timmermann is also set to produce, with Hauser, Reinhart, Dan Reardon and Lisa Wolofsky exec producing. Upgrade is handling international sales after introducing the project to buyers at Cannes, with UTA Independent Film Group repping domestic rights.
Best known for playing the Asgardian warrior Lady Sif in numerous Marvel projects, beginning with Kenneth Branagh’s Thor in 2011, Alexander also starred for five seasons on the hit NBC series Blindspot. Next up, she’ll appear in the 17th season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, reprising her role of Tammy from Season 1. She is represented by Gersh, Berwick & Kovacik, and Ginsburg Daniels Kallis.
Fineman is an SNL cast member who can currently be seen starring in Jillian Bell’s directorial debut Summer of 69 for American High and Hulu, which debuting at #1 on the streamer. Upcoming, she has Freakier Friday opposite Lindsay Lohan, as well as pickleball comedy The Dink alongside Ben Stiller and Jake Johnson, and Joey Power’s indie rom-com Love Language. She made her Broadway debut in Simon Rich’s All In and is repped by CAA and NG Management.
Best known for her breakout turn opposite Robert De Niro in Martin Scorsese’s Raging Bull, which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, Moriarty has also been seen in films like Neighbors, Kindergarten Cop, But I’m a Cheerleader and Patti Cake$, among myriad other projects. She is represented by Artists & Representatives and Felker Toczek Suddleson.
