June “Mama June” Shannon shares an update about her weight loss journey during an exclusive interview with In Touch, revealing that she’s no longer using medication.
“I’m not on the shot. I haven’t been on the shot in quite a while,” June, 45, tells In Touch about her decision to stop using medication for weight loss while promoting season 7 of Mama June: Family Crisis. “I have maintained, like, the same weight loss since, like. October.”
June – who currently weighs 195 pounds – explains that she’s been able to keep her lower weight by making a “lifestyle change.”
“I tell you all the time, if you choose to go on the weight loss shot, it has so many benefits. Not just for weight loss, but for, like, people who have like PCOS, women’s issues, people who have inflammation, people who have other issues going on,” June adds. “I haven’t took the shot since, like, December and [am] still maintaining and eating properly no matter where I’m at.”
June’s weight has fluctuated over the years, and she first revealed she was taking weight loss injections in April 2024 after gaining 130 pounds. The mother of four previously underwent weight loss surgery in 2016, and she was able to get down to 195 pounds. However, she had a hard time keeping the weight off and started gaining weight due to stress amid her eldest daughter Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell’s cancer battle. Anna died at the age of 29 in December 2023.
June previously shared an update about her weight loss journey while exclusively speaking to In Touch in June 2024. “I’ve been on weight loss medication. I was first on Semaglutide, which is like Ozempic. And now I’m on Triglycerides for the last three weeks,” she said at the time, stating that the medication she was using at the time was “better” and wasn’t experiencing any side effects.
Not only did June share that she was using the weight loss medication, but she added that she was keeping the weight off by exercising “three or four times a week.”
“I was one of those girlies that was like, ‘Oh no. I don’t want to be sick. I don’t want to be on the toilet. I don’t want to be throwing up’ because I experienced that with the gastric bypass – the gastric sleeve,” June said about using the medication. “For me, I’ve had no side effects. I don’t eat sweets. I don’t drink sodas.”

While triglyceride is often used for treating diabetes, June said she had “no low blood sugar” since she started taking the medication. “I’ve just been really good and consistent,” she said. “The only difference [for] this medicine and the gastric sleeve is I lost 160 pounds in four weeks [with the surgery] and with this I lose four pounds a week.”
The TLC personality has continued to document her weight loss on social media. She revealed that she was down 60 pounds in September 2024, while June also gave her fan a glimpse into how her diet was impacting her takeout orders.
Fans can expect to see even more moments from her weight loss journey when Mama June: Family Crisis returns for season 7 on WeTV Friday, May 30, at 8pm ET.
