Nate Bargatze is hosting the 77th Emmy Awards later this year so he stopped by The Late Show to get some advice from host Stephen Colbert.

Colbert hosted the Emmys in 2017 when they aired on CBS, which they will again this year.

Bargatze admitted he was “nervous” to host the event, which takes place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sept. 14.

When asked by Colbert if he had any plans, Bargatze said he was “going to rely” on Colbert.

“Did you watch all of the shows? I haven’t watched all of the shows,” he said.

“No, I don’t have time for TV,” joked Colbert.

“I’m just going to do what I do, I’m very self-deprecating and try and bring it inward. I know it’s a tough thing, you’re up for all of these awards so I want everybody to have a good time and try and make it a lively moment. I’ll make fun of me,” Bargatze added.

Colbert then asked the comedian whether he sang and danced. “Nah, this is it. You get this energy at [Madison Square Garden] or here. It’s only this energy so if you’re not on board, it’s going to be a long ride,” he joked.

Bargatze is one of the top standups in the country and he was on The Late Show ostensibly to promote his new book Big Dumb Eyes: Stories from a Simpler Mind, which was published by Grand Central Publishing last month.

He hosted SNL for a second time in season 50, produced the holiday variety special, Nate Bargatze’s Nashville Christmas with Lorne Michaels for CBS, and is set to star in comedy The Breadwinner for TriStar Pictures, which he is also executive producing.

Emmy nominations will be announced by the Television Academy on Tuesday, July 15 and will stream live at 8:30 a.m. PT on Emmys.com. The Emmys will be preceded by the Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Saturday, Sept. 6, and Sunday, Sept. 7.
