Erin Moriarty has revealed she’s been diagnosed with Graves’ disease.

The Boys star took to Instagram to share the health update on Thursday. There, she revealed that since receiving the diagnosis, she’s been “increasing in strength ever since.”

“A month ago, I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease. Within 24 hours of beginning treatment, I felt the light coming back on. It’s been increasing in strength ever since,” she wrote. “If yours is dimming, even slightly, go get checked. Don’t ‘suck it up’ and transcend suffering; you deserve to be comfy. Shit’s hard enough as is.”

In the series of photos Moriarty shared in the announcement post, she shared a screenshot of a conversation with her mother where she wrote, “I’m serious; I really need relief. I feel nauseated tonight. I feel so shit and removed from who I am, I can’t live like this forever.”

Later in the caption, Moriarty reflected on her experience pre-diagnosis, writing, “One thing I can say: if I hadn’t chalked it all up to stress and fatigue, I would’ve caught this sooner.”

“Autoimmune disease manifests differently in everybody/every body. Your experience will be different from mine,” she added. “My experience will be different from yours. Perhaps greatly, perhaps minutely.”

Mayo Clinic defines Graves’ disease as “an immune system condition that affects the thyroid gland” that also “causes the body to make too much thyroid hormone.” The Clinic, too, notes that while anyone can get the disease, it’s more common in women and people over than 30.

Erin Moriarty has starred in Eric Kripke’s superhero drama The Boys since its first season as Annie January/Starlight. The show’s fourth season finished up almost a year ago, and while there’s no official word on when season five will arrive, it will be the series’ final installment.
