Just as We Were Liars stars a legendary family, the Sinclairs, the show contains a stacked cast of actors and actresses to portray the larger than life wealthy family, who have secrets lurking beneath the surface of their summers on Beechwood Island.
Three generations of Sinclairs star in Prime Video’s adaptation of E. Lockhart’s novel, created by Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie, now streaming with eight episodes.

Emily Alyn Lind as Cadence Sinclair Eastman
Image Credit: Prime Video Emily Alyn Lind plays Cadence ‘Cady’ Sinclair Eastman, daughter of Penelope ‘Penny’ Sinclair (Caitlin Fitzgerald) and Sam Eastman (Charlie Carrick). She narrates the story both in the show and in the book. Cadence is the first granddaughter of Harris (David Morse) and Tipper (Wendy Crewson) Sinclair, who own the private Beechwood Island off of Martha’s Vineyard.
Lind is known for playing Audrey Hope in HBO Max’s reboot of Gossip Girl, Melody in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024), Snakebite Andi in Doctor Sleep (2019) and Shirley Temple in J. Edgar (2011).

Shubham Maheshwari as Gatwick Matthew Patil
Image Credit: Prime Video Shubham Maheshwari brings Gat Patil to life, who is described by E. Lockhart in her book and by Cadence in the show as “ambition and strong coffee.” Gat comes to Beechwood one summer with his uncle Ed (Rahul Kohli) who is dating Carrie (Mamie Gummer) when Cadence is eight years old, and he makes a mark on her forever.
Maheshwari has previously appeared in the short film Haven Dust (2021).

Esther McGregor as Mirren Sinclair Sheffield
Image Credit: Prime Video Esther McGregor portrays Mirren, “sunshine, curiosity and effort” in the show added with “sugar and rain” in the book. Mirren is the daughter of youngest Sinclair sister Bess and Brody Sheffield (Dylan Bruce).
Esther McGregor is the daughter of actor Ewan McGregor and Eve Mavrakis. She played Isabel in Babygirl (2024), Natalie in High School and Tetha Grig in Obi-Wan Kenobi. She also appeared in Bleeding Love (2023).

Joseph Zada as Johnny Sinclair Dennis
Image Credit: Prime Video Johnny Sinclair Dennis is the eldest son of eldest Sinclair daughter Carrie and William Dennis. Jonny is “salt and swagger and snark” in the show with “bounce and effort” in the book. In the show, he is queer, but he’s not exactly sure what label yet.
Joseph Zada will portray Haymitch Abernathy in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (2026). He has also appeared in Total Control and Bilched (2019).

Rahul Kohli as Ed Patil

Rahul Kohli is known for playing Teddy in Next Exit (2022), Ravi Chakrabarti in iZombie, Miles Watlow in The Electric State (2025) and Leo Usher in The Fall of the House of Usher.

Candice King as Elizabeth ‘Bess’ Sinclair
Image Credit: Prime Video Candice King plays Bess Sinclair, the youngest of Harris and Tipper’s three daughters. She shares Mirren, Liberty and Bonnie with Brody Sheffield.
Candice King has worked with We Were Liars creator Julie Plec previously on The Vampire Diaries, in which she portrayed Caroline Forbes. She has also appeared in Juno (2007), Deadgirl (2008) and After We Collided (2020).

Caitlin Fitzgerald as Penelope ‘Penny’ Sinclair
Image Credit: Prime Video Penny Sinclair is the middle Sinclair sister, but mother of the first grandchild Cadence. She split from Cady’s father Sam, and she breeds golden retrievers.
Fitzgerald plays Agent Daphne O’Connor in The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020), Lauren Adler in It’s Complicated (2009) and Libby Masters in Masters of Sex. She also portrayed Simone in Sweetbitter.

Mamie Gummer as Caroline ‘Carrie’ Sinclair
Image Credit: Prime Video Mamie Gummer (pictured on the far right above) plays Harris and Tipper’s oldest daughter Carrie, or Caroline, Sinclair. She is mother to Johnny and Will. Carrie has had trouble with drug addiction in the past, and this is detailed in E. Lockhart’s prequel novel Family of Liars.
Mamie Gummer is the daughter of Meryl Streep and Don Gummer. She is known for playing Mel in The Lifeguard (2013), Julie in Ricki and the Flash (2015), Emily in The Ward (2010) and Kayla in Side Effects (2013).

David Morse as Harris Sinclair
Image Credit: Prime Video Harris Sinclair is the patriarch of the wealthy, white, Democratic Sinclair family. He has many mottos and sayings and rules for not only his three daughters, but his grandchildren as well, and they feel the pressure of what he will hand down to them in his will.
Morse is known for playing Brutus ‘Brutal’ Howell in The Green Mile (1999), Colonel Reed in The Hurt Locker (2008), Major Tom Baxter in The Rock (1996) and an Ex-CIA Agent in World War Z (2013). More recently, he has appeared as Dean Paul Larson in The Chair on Netflix and as Nicholas Bell in Apple TV+’s adaptation of Laura Dave’s The Last Thing He Told Me.

Wendy Crewson as Tipper Taft Sinclair
Image Credit: Prime Video Tipper Taft Sinclair is Harris’ adoring wife. She loves her crafts, baking and overseeing the annual Lemon Hunt which involves a scavenger hunt for 100 lemons and one lime that she hides on the island every summer.
Sinclair appeared as Grace Marshall in Air Force One (1997), Natalie Gibson in The 6th Day (2000), Evelyn Danvers in The Covenant (2006) and as a Talk Show Hostess in Room (2015). More recently, she can be seen in as Mary Dove Shaw in Tracker and as Tess Stewart in When Hope Calls.
