EXCLUSIVE: XYZ Films is planning a fall 2025 U.S. theatrical release for Bafta-winning director Babak Anvari’s psychological thriller Hallow Road, starring Rosamund and Matthew Rhys.
Multi-award-winning actors Pike (Saltburn) and Rhys (The Americans) play parents in a race against time when they receive a distressing late-night phone call from their daughter, after she hits another young woman while driving the father’s car.
As they head deeper into the night, disturbing revelations threaten to tear the family apart as they realize they might not be the only ones driving down Hallow Road.
The movie world premiered in the SXSW Film Festival’s Midnighter sidebar in March, and was launched theatrically in the UK on May 16 by Universal Pictures, grossing $$220,585 in its first two weeks on release.
The theatrical trailer for the film will debut nationwide in the U.S. on June 6 alongside XYZ Film’s true-story exorcism thriller The Ritual starring Al Pacino and Dan Stevens, which opens that day.
Lucan Toh of Two & Two Pictures and Ian Henry of London Film & TV produced the film alongside XYZ Films. The film was financed by XYZ Films with funding from IPR.VC and Screen Ireland. XYZ will continue international sales.
The screenplay for Hallow Road was written by William Gillies, having been commissioned and developed by London Film & TV.
British-Iranian director Anvari is best known for directing Sundance hit horror film Under the Shadow, for which he won the Outstanding Debut Bafta in 2016, and is the co-founder of Two & Two Pictures with Lucan Toh. His feature credits also include Wounds and I Came By.
XYZ and Two & Two have previously collaborated on Anvari’s Under the Shadow and I Came By, as well as History of Evil written and directed by Bo Mirhosseni.
Upcoming titles from XYZ Films include Something Beautiful, the new visual album from Miley Cyrus, and In Cold Light starring Maika Monroe and Troy Kotsur, which both premiere at Tribeca.
